What Happens During an HVAC Replacement
By All Purpose Anytime Services LLC
Most of a good replacement happens before install day. Sizing, ductwork, electrical and venting are settled first. Install day is then one working day for most houses, and it ends with readings, not just a running unit.
Before install day
- We diagnose what failed and price the repair, so you can compare
- We size from the house: square footage, insulation, windows and orientation
- We inspect the ductwork before anything is ordered
- We confirm the electrical at the panel, and the venting and condensate routes
- You get the options and the price in writing
Install day
For most houses the swap itself is a single working day after the new equipment arrives. If the duct inspection turned up repairs, the extra time is in the schedule you agreed to, so it does not surprise you on the morning.
The old equipment is removed and disposed of. The new system is installed, charged to specification and started.
Before we leave
The system is commissioned with readings taken. The thermostat is set up for the equipment, including staging and backup heat where the system has them. We walk you through it and leave the documentation.
Two warranties apply after a replacement: the equipment maker covers the new units on its own terms, and we cover the installation work for 60 to 90 days depending on the job.
What to have in hand afterwards
- The model and serial numbers of what was installed
- The equipment warranty paperwork and registration
- The written scope and final price, matching what you approved
- The readings taken at start-up
How to Prepare the House
- Clear a path from the door to the furnace or air handler, and around the outdoor unit
- Move anything stored against the equipment or in the attic access
- Plan for the heating or cooling to be off for most of install day
- Have the thermostat you want to keep, or decide on a new one, before the day
A clear path and access to the attic or basement keep a one day changeout from running into a second day.
