Heat Pump Installation
If you want one system to heat and cool the house, a heat pump does both. We size it from the house and set the balance point so the backup heat only covers the coldest nights.
When a heat pump makes sense
We install heat pumps across Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia in houses with an aging split system, in houses that heat with electric resistance, and in spaces that need both heat and cooling.
- Electric resistance heating running the whole winter
- An aging air conditioner and furnace both near the end
- An addition or conversion that needs heating and cooling
What changes the price
- Capacity and efficiency of the equipment
- Ducted or ductless, and if ductless, how many indoor heads
- Electrical work at the panel
How we work
No rebate in our price
We aren't enrolled in any rebate or assistance program right now. The heat pump price we give you is the full price, with nothing knocked off for a rebate, and that's the number to decide on.
- If you've already bought a heat pump, we'll install it once we've checked that the panel can take the electrical load.
- Our installation labor is warranted for 60 to 90 days, depending on the job. The heat pump itself is covered by whoever made it.
Before you buy a heat pump
Backup heat ends up doing the real work.
We size from the house, set the balance point and set up the thermostat so the backup heat only comes on when it should.
It won't keep up in a cold snap.
In most homes around here it will, with backup heat for the coldest days. The sizing matters more than the brand on the box.
Your electrical panel can't take it.
We check breaker space and capacity at the walkthrough. The quote follows within 24 to 48 hours and says what the electrical side needs, if it needs anything.
The house has no ducts.
Then we lay out a ductless system. If there are ducts, we inspect them first. What moves a heat pump price.
When to install a heat pump around DC
Spring and fall are the times to do it. The house can go a day without heat or air and schedules are lighter. If you haven't decided yet, read heat pump or furnace.

How the job runs
- 1We size the heat pump from the house and pick the balance point, the temperature where backup heat takes over.
- 2If there are ducts, we inspect them. If there aren't, we lay out the ductless heads.
- 3We check the panel can carry the load before install day.
- 4We install it, charge it to spec and commission it in heating and in cooling.
- 5We set the thermostat up properly, because a badly set thermostat is what makes a heat pump expensive to run.

What you get with a new heat pump
Install and unit both under warranty
The heat pump carries its maker’s warranty. Our installation and commissioning carry a 60 to 90 day warranty, depending on the job.
A thermostat set up to save you money
We set it so the backup heat only comes on when it should. That setting is most of the difference between a cheap heat pump bill and an expensive one.
