Can I get a free furnace tune-up through LIEEP?

By All Purpose Anytime Services LLC

Quite possibly. Maryland's Limited Income Energy Efficiency Program, LIEEP, gives limited income utility customers a free home energy audit and then installs upgrades at no cost. Furnace cleaning, tuning and safety repairs are on its list.

What LIEEP covers

  • A free home energy audit
  • Insulation
  • Hot water system improvements
  • Furnace cleaning, tuning and safety repairs
  • Lighting
  • Health and safety items

Everything on that list is installed at no cost to you.

Who qualifies

Limited income customers of participating utilities, at or below the higher of 250 percent of the federal poverty level or 80 percent of area median income. That limit reaches above the 200 percent line the Weatherization Assistance Program uses, so a household that misses one may still fit the other.

Those were the program's terms in October 2026. The program decides eligibility.

How to apply

Apply through the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, or call 1-855-583-8976.

Where we stand

We're not part of LIEEP, and we aren't enrolled in any other assistance or rebate program either. If you qualify, the program's tune-up costs you nothing, so take it.

If you don't qualify, a fall heating check from us covers the burners, the flame sensor, the heat exchanger, the venting and the combustion readings. On a furnace that sat idle all summer, that visit is where a weak ignitor or a dirty sensor gets caught in daylight instead of on the first cold night. September or October is the time to book it. The Biannual Tune-Up Plan adds a spring cooling visit, filter replacements, priority scheduling and 10 percent off repairs.

Services this program can pay for

LIEEP's furnace cleaning and tuning match our HVAC maintenance, and its safety repairs match furnace repair and heating repair. The insulation, hot water, lighting and other items aren't work we do.

Where this comes from

Book a tune-up if LIEEP isn't for you

If the program turns you down or the wait is long, call us for a heating check and we'll tell you the visit price before we book it.
